The Drama Warrior Theatre Troupe is resuming its program after a few-year hiatus. Led by Mrs. Melanie Spivey, students will learn about acting, design, and filmmaking in a variety of courses offered by Warren ISD. Students will also have the opportunity to compete in several UIL competitions including One Act Play, Theatrical Design, and Film.
Melanie Spivey is a State Semi-Finalist sponsor for the UIL Theatrical Design contest and Regional Qualifying Director in UIL One Act Play. She most recently was the Theatre Director at Woodville ISD where she was the reigning One Act Play District Champion Director at both the junior high and high school levels. Under her leadership, Mrs. Spivey has earned 100+ awards in various competitions. She is an active member of the Texas Educational Theatre Association.
High School
Theatre Production: The purpose of this course is to study acting and technical theatre and its relationship to the production process. Emphasis will be placed on in-class performances and individual/group presentations. Students may have the opportunity to participate in campus events and productions. UIL One Act Play is a major component of this course.
Theatre Arts: This course is designed for the theatre student interested in the design of productions (costuming, set, marketing, hair, makeup, etc.) Also, in this course, students will examine Theatre History, Acting (monologues, duet scenes, and group scenes), Improvisation, Pantomime and Movement, Voice and Diction, and Theatre Literature. The UIL Theatrical Design contest is a component of this course.
Junior High School
JH Theatre Arts: This is a theatre introductory survey course designed for theatre students interested in fulfilling their Fine Arts credit. In this course, students will examine Theatre History, Acting (monologues, duet scenes, and group scenes), Improvisation, Pantomime and Movement, Voice and Diction, and Theatre Literature. The UIL One Act Play Contest is a component of this course.
Students taking the class will not be required to participate in a UIL contest but will be encouraged to help when appropriate.
Rehearsals will be a mixture of in-class and after-school. Mrs. Spivey will work around extracurricular activities.
