Warren ISD PD FAQ

Dear Parents and Guardians,At Warren ISD, the safety and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority. As part of our ongoing commitment to school safety, we will be conducting a Reunification Drill on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.What is Reunification?Reunification is the process of safely reuniting students with their parents or guardians following an emergency situation that requires evacuation or a campus lockdown. While we hope never to face such an event, it is essential that we are well-prepared. A reunification plan ensures that students are accounted for and only released to authorized individuals in a controlled and organized manner.Why This Drill is ImportantIn the event of a real emergency, emotions can run high, and chaos can ensue if a clear plan is not in place. Practicing this process allows us to:Train staff and students on what to expectTest our internal communication and verification systemsIdentify areas for improvementEnsure a smoother, safer response in the event of a real-life incidentAllow parents/guardians to get familiar with the procedures and protocols to be reunified with their child in an actual event or emergency situationDrill Details & LogisticsDate: Tuesday, September 30, 2025 Time: 10 AM – 3 PMWhat to Expect: Students and staff will go through the full reunification process, including simulated parent pick-up (no actual parent involvement is required for this drill).Backpacks: Students do not need to bring a backpack with them to school this day. If they bring a backpack, then they will leave it in the classroom. Then, if the student is reunified at the site, the backpack will remain at the school overnight unless the student and guardian plan to get the backpack from the student’s campus after 3 PMParents can begin picking students up at 11 AM from the sites and we will stop releasing the students at 2 PM so we can get back to the campus for normal release procedures.If your child is not picked up from the reunification site they will be transported back to the district and normal transportation will be taken home.Important Note: Parent pick-up at the campuses will not be available during the drill window (10:00 AM–3:00 PM). Please plan accordingly. If you need your child during this time then you will need to respond to the reunification site and go through the process.Important Note: This drill will be weather dependent. Threats Are No Joke!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASESeptember 18, 2025Warren ISD is participating in Threats Are No Joke! A public awareness campaign. As Warren ISD students have returned to school this fall, Warren ISD is participating in the Texas School Safety Center’s new public awareness campaign, Threats Are No Joke! This campaign is to educate students and parents about the serious consequences of making or sharing threats. Intended for grades 4 - 12, the campaign includes a powerful PSA video and supporting resources to share the message, Threats Are No Joke! Don’t do it. Don’t share it. Report it!The video depicts how a single text message shared among students quickly escalates into chaos, triggering fear, confusion, and a full law enforcement response. This PSA serves as a critical reminder that there’s no such thing as “just a joke” when it comes to threats about school violence, school safety, or harm to others. The PSA is posted on the district police webpage and will be shared with the student body as an assembly.“When someone makes a threat, whether they mean it or not, it can put everyone’s safety at risk,” says Dr. Kathy Martinez-Prather, TxSSC director. “Many students and parents don’t know that even sharing or joking about a threat can be illegal. This video aims to change that and emphasize that threats to school safety are a crime and carry real consequences.”The video features a law enforcement officer discussing the legal consequences of making or sharing threats and a Texas School Safety Teen Ambassador encouraging students to report threats by telling an adult they trust such as a parent, teacher, or coach.“Many times, students share things on social media or with our friends and we don’t realize that it can spread fear and panic,” Sebastian, a Texas School Safety Teen Ambassador says. “It is our responsibility to help keep our schools and friends safe and speaking up is how we stay safe.”Warren ISD also encourages students and families to report threats or concerning information through the Warren ISD District webpage www.warrenisd.net/page/district-police. Each campus has a box placed on campus that students can drop off notes if they don’t want to report to a staff member and still remain anonymous.The video and resources, including teacher and parent guides, posters, and social media graphics, are available to educators and the public at no cost on the TxSSC’s website. These posters and information will be placed throughout the campuses for students and staff to have a constant reminder that threats are no joke, how to report, consequences, and the differences between snitching or reporting.The Texas School Safety Center is a university-level research center at Texas State University with the mission to serve schools and communities to create safe, secure, and healthy environments.
