In just two months, Warren High School's debate team has made remarkable strides, achieving notable success under the leadership of coach Cathy D’Entremont. Starting with no prior experience, the team has quickly risen to compete at an advanced level, proving their dedication and talent. Coach D’Entremont, who previously coached UIL state qualifiers at Woodville High School for six consecutive years, expressed her pride in the team’s rapid progress; emphasizing their dedication and enthusiasm for the sport.
At the Regional tournament in Beaumont on November 6, Joel Cowart captured second place, while Izzy Ledbetter placed sixth. Landon Bell earned the title of “Outstanding Presiding Officer,” reflecting his exceptional leadership abilities, and Emma Smith served as a vital alternate for the team. These achievements follow their impressive performance at a Nederland competition last month, where Cowart and Smith clinched first place as a team, and Ledbetter earned third.
The success of Warren’s debate team signals a bright future for the program, and the students are eager to continue building on this momentum in upcoming competitions. Congratulations to the WHS debate team for their outstanding accomplishments and commitment to excellence!
