JET

Warren ISD is proud to announce the receipt of a Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grant, a significant investment that will enhance the district’s Agricultural Mechanics program. This funding will provide state-of-the-art equipment, giving students hands-on experience with industry-standard tools and technology, preparing them for successful careers in agriculture and related trades.

 What is the JET Grant?

Administered through the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), the JET grant program aims to help public junior, state, and technical colleges, school districts, and open-enrollment charter schools develop career and technical education (CTE) programs that align with workforce needs. The grant focuses on high-demand, high-wage industries, providing funds to purchase specialized equipment that would otherwise be out of reach for many educational institutions. For Warren ISD, the JET grant represents a crucial step in ensuring students have access to the tools and training necessary to compete in the evolving job market. The grant’s primary goal is to enhance educational opportunities and meet workforce demands by preparing students for careers in skilled trades.

Equipment Acquired Through the JET Grant

The JET grant will fund the procurement of an impressive array of specialized equipment, transforming the Agricultural Mechanics program into a hub of innovation and skill development. Key items include:

  • Miller Multimatic 255 Welders (20 units) – Versatile welding machines that allow for MIG, TIG, and stick welding, essential for metal fabrication projects.

  • Miller Millermatic 252 with Spoolmatic (3 units) – High-performance welders designed for heavy-duty welding tasks.

  • Piranha P50 Iron Worker – A powerful tool used for shearing, punching, and bending metal with precision.

  • Pipe Notching and Bending Equipment – Including the Ercolina Mega Bender and Eagle Roll Benders, essential for shaping pipes and tubing used in structural and mechanical applications.

  • Fischer Bend Tester and Watts Tensile Tester – Devices for testing the strength and durability of materials, providing critical data on weld quality and metal performance.

  • Betenbender 6' Press Brake (120 Ton) – A heavy-duty machine used for bending metal sheets into various shapes with exceptional accuracy.

How This Benefits Students

The addition of this cutting-edge equipment will elevate Warren ISD’s Agricultural Mechanics program to new heights. Students will have the opportunity to work with machinery used in professional settings, providing them with a competitive edge in the job market. They will gain expertise in welding, fabrication, and metalworking, skills that are highly sought after in industries such as construction, manufacturing, and agriculture. This hands-on experience will not only enhance technical skills but also foster problem-solving, critical thinking, and project management abilities. Students will graduate well-prepared to enter the workforce or pursue further education in trade schools or technical colleges.

Securing a Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grant is a competitive and meticulous process that reflects Warren ISD’s commitment to excellence in education. TWC awards this grant to schools that demonstrate a clear vision for developing CTE programs aligned with industry needs.  To begin the process, the district must conduct a comprehensive needs assessment. This includes identifying gaps in current educational offerings and the equipment necessary to address them. The assessment should involve understanding workforce demands, demonstrating how the proposed equipment will prepare students for high-demand jobs in fields like welding, manufacturing, and construction, and providing data on regional labor market trends to show the alignment between program outcomes and job opportunities.
